This was a Wurlitzer 206a student model console piano that I chopped and restored at the end of 2024, and into the beginning of 2025. As with the Wurlitzer 200 that I restored earlier in 2024, I replaced the electronics with a new amp/power supply board from Vintage Vibe. It now has variable vibrato, a proper line out, and I replaced the hardwired power with an IEC connector.
It needed a bit of work to fix the action of the keys, and a few of the reeds needed to be replaced and tuned.
After installing the new sustain pedal and legs, I noticed a problem with the keys not returning fast enough to strike subsequently when the sustain was engaged. Greasing the pins and easing the bushings only helped so much. The solution was to install weights on each key, and that fixed the problem.
New Electronics installed
Piano before the chop. After removing the top from the bottom console, the Wurlitzer 206 becomes a 200.
Jiffy Weights installed on every key!
